Traditions and Genealogy of the Mattingly Family, 1633-1918

ebook
In venturing into the genealogy of the Mattingly ancestry we are surely treading in an unexplored field. The results, therefore, can be none other than "lamentably" deficient. For it is a subject which has not aroused the natural pride of the family. One party replied, "I have never taken any interest in the matter - was afraid I might find out too much." The knowledge and information the writer has acquired in the four years of constant research has filled him with just and enthusiastic pride in the sterling qualities of his ancestors. Reared in the Catholic Faith from time immemorial, they have adhered to that Faith incessantly. In virtue, thrift and honor they stand second to non in the land. So I am proud of every drop of blood that flows in their veins. There is in England a town called MATTINGLY, whose origin goes back into the centuries long ago. We can then only conclude that the name is Anglo-Saxon in origin.
